The problem
Good stories, heard by too few people
Most visitors never leave the postcard streets
They arrive, photograph the famous view, buy a coffee and go. The quieter lanes, the independent shops and the sites two minutes off the main route stay empty while the centre is full. Printed trails go out of date the moment a business closes, and consumer tour apps keep the visitor for themselves.
Your guides speak one language. Your visitors speak dozens.
A full boat, a full bus or a full tour, and half the group is following a story in a language they only partly understand. The route never changes, so neither does the story, and most customers come once. A live guide is only available when the rota says so.
Talestep gives you a route you control, in the languages your visitors speak, with a story that starts by itself at every stop.
How it works
Three steps to a live route
Choose the route.
You decide the stops, the order and the story you want told. We map the geofences along the route and tune them until they trigger reliably.
Write it, or bring your own.
We write scripts from sources you approve, or take the stories your team already tells and flag anything we cannot source. Then we voice it in multiple languages.
Visitors scan and go.
A QR code on a poster, a card, a ticket or a window. The tour opens in the browser, caches itself, and plays hands free as they move.
The visitor app
Your brand, their pocket
Choose a tour.
Every language on offer appears on the first screen, chosen before anything else loads. Every tour shows its length, its walking time and whether the route is step free.
Stories that find you.
The story starts as they arrive, without anyone reaching for a phone. If GPS drops out, and in a walled city it will, every stop has a play button as a permanent fallback.
Read it if you prefer.
Full transcripts on every stop, for Deaf and hard of hearing visitors, or anyone simply in a place too loud to listen.
Finish somewhere useful.
The last stop can point at an independent trader, a ticketed site, the next route or your next experience. You decide where the tour lets people go.
For experience operators
More languages, more stories, the same route
Every language, every departure.
Your live guide keeps the English. Everyone else hears the same tour on their own phone, in their own language.
One route, many stories.
Add Story Layers such as history, architecture or science, and give regulars a reason to come back.
Your stories, your voice.
Bring the tales your team already tells. We capture, check, translate and voice them.
A tour for when no one is free.
A self guided version for self hire, quiet days and the last booking of the evening.
The console
Nothing goes live until you say so
Approve every word.
Each script arrives with its sources listed underneath. Stories you bring are checked too, and anything we cannot source is flagged for you to decide. Approve, edit or reject. Nothing reaches a visitor until someone at your organisation has said yes.
Your logo, your colours.
Set the brand once and it applies across every screen a visitor sees. Change the welcome message in under a minute, with no developer involved.
Manage the routes.
Add a stop, reorder a tour, take a tour offline for a weekend of roadworks. All of it without a release.
A note every Friday.
A plain summary of the week, written for the people who will never open a dashboard.
The evidence
Where they actually went
Every tour produces anonymous data you have never had before: which stops hold attention, where people drop out, which language they chose, what time of day the route is busiest, how far from the centre they got. It is footfall dispersal you can show a board, a funder or a levy payer, rather than describe. For operators, it shows which stories and languages your customers choose, and whether they come back for another.
Completion rate
How many people who start a tour finish it
Stop by stop attention
Where the story holds and where it loses them
Language mix
Which visitors you are actually reaching
Dispersal
How far from the honeypot the route pulls people
No accounts, no cookies, no personal data. Sessions are anonymous and cannot be linked back to a person.
Why it holds up
The boring parts, done properly
Every claim is checked.
Scripts we write are built only from sources you approve, mapped sentence by sentence. Stories you bring are checked too. Anything unsourced is flagged before it goes live, and a legend is told as a legend, never as fact.
Built to be accessible.
WCAG 2.2 AA, full transcripts, screen reader labels and step free route information. Tested on a phone in the street, not only in a browser.
Triggers you can rely on.
Geofences are tuned street by street until they fire reliably, and every stop keeps a manual play button as a backup if GPS ever drops out.
Privacy by design.
No accounts, no personal data, no advertising. Anonymous sessions only, hosted in the UK.
What it costs
One subscription, extras on demand
Talestep is licensed as a single annual subscription, agreed directly with your organisation.
The subscription
The platform, your branded visitor app, five tours or story layers, multiple languages, one console login and the dashboard.
Extras
Additional routes, more languages and more console logins, quoted on demand. New features are added to the platform regularly.
Tell us about the place or the experience and we will put a number to it.
Talk to us
Tell us about the place or the experience
Send us the destination or the tour you run, roughly how many visitors you see, and what you would want a first route to do. We will come back with what it would take and what it would cost.
No. It runs in the phone's browser. They scan a code and it opens.
Whose brand is on it?
Yours. The visitor sees your logo, your colours and your words. Talestep is the platform underneath, not the badge on the front.
Who writes the content?
Either of us. We write from sources you supply, or you bring the stories your team already tells and we flag anything we cannot source. Nothing publishes until you approve it.
Can it run alongside our live guides?
Yes. Your guide carries on as normal, and visitors who prefer another language listen on their own phone with earphones.
Can one route have more than one story?
Yes. Each route can carry several story layers, and visitors choose one when they start.
Who owns the stories?
You do. Talestep hosts, translates and voices them under your brand.
What if the GPS does not trigger?
Every stop has a manual play button as a permanent fallback, and we tune the trigger radius on the street for each stop.
How many languages?
Several with the subscription, and more whenever you need them, since the same approved script is translated rather than rewritten.
What data do we get?
Anonymous journey data: completion, stop by stop attention, language mix and dispersal. No personal data is collected at all.
How much does it cost?
Talestep is licensed as a single annual subscription, agreed directly with your organisation. It depends on the number of stops, the languages you need and how much usable source material already exists. Tell us about the place or the experience and we will put a number to it.
Is there anything to pay up front?
No. The subscription is annual and covers the build of your agreed routes. Tours, story layers and languages beyond that are extras, quoted on demand as you need them.
